Sunrise Midwifery provides compassionate and individualized care throughout all phases of pregnancy, birth and the postpartum period. For healthy low-risk women seeking a natural approach to pregnancy and birth, midwifery care offers a more comfortable and personalized experience. Your appointments are relaxed and unhurried, with each visit scheduled for one hour allowing you time to ask questions and discuss your concerns. During your visits, we’ll be monitoring your overall health as well as your baby’s growth and well being, providing routine laboratory testing, diagnostic ultrasounds and consultations as indicated. Your birth takes place at home, surrounded by your loved ones and in a familiar environment. Postpartum care continues for both mother and baby with home and office visits. Our flexible evening and Saturday appointments make it easy for you and your partner, family and friends to be a part of your care.

Water Birth

We offer a waterbirth option at no additional charge. Healthy women can safely labor and birth in the water while enjoying the many benefits that water can provide. We are happy to provide birth pool recommendations as well as supplies upon request.

Doula Support

What to Expect

Sunrise Midwifery’s prenatal schedule consists of monthly visits until the 28th week, every 2 weeks until the 36th week followed by weekly visits until your baby’s birth. Birth takes place in your home or a location that you find desirable. Doula support is also available to provide you with the comfort and support you need during your birth.

Postpartum Care

Caring and attentive postpartum care from birth through six weeks, with home and office visits for both mother and baby. Services include newborn laboratory testing, hearing screening, lactation support, and compassionate guidance to help you feel confident as you begin your journey into motherhood.

Midwifery Training

I attended Maternidad La Luz, a free-standing birth center in El Paso, Texas. MLL is a MEAC Accredited Midwifery School offering a unique setting on the US/Mexico border. I successfully completed the advanced three-year program and became a Certified Professional Midwife. I returned to Arizona and opened Sunrise Midwifery in October of 2004.

About me

I’ve lived in Arizona for most of my life, and feel truly blessed to have my four sons, their wives and nine grandchildren all living here in the valley. Outside of Midwifery, I enjoy sewing, pattern design, spinning, photography and travel. I love babies and everything about being a Midwife. I’m truly living my dream. Midwifery is a blessing and I’m grateful for all the joy it has brought to my life.

Q: What are prenatal visits like?

A: Each prenatal visit includes a thorough assessment of you and your baby. We monitor fetal position and growth, maternal vital signs, nutrition, supplements, and your overall well-being. Visits are scheduled for one hour, giving you plenty of time to ask questions and receive personalized guidance. Prenatal visits are typically scheduled every 4 weeks until 28 weeks, every 2 weeks from 28–36 weeks, and weekly from 36 weeks until your baby is born.

Q: What equipment does a midwife bring to a homebirth?

A: We carry modern medical equipment and essential supplies to safely monitor and support you and your baby during labor and birth at home. Supplies include:

Electronic fetal monitoring equipment
Blood pressure and vital-sign monitoring equipment
Sterile instruments and birth supplies
Medications and emergency pharmaceuticals
Oxygen and newborn resuscitation equipment
Supplies for newborn assessment and care
Fluid and diagnostic testing supplies
Additional supportive supplies, including herbal and homeopathic options when appropriate

Our equipment and supplies are maintained and prepared to support safe, professional out-of-hospital birth care.

Q: What about prenatal testing and ultrasounds?

A: Routine laboratory testing is an important part of your prenatal care, with specimens conveniently collected in our office. When ultrasounds are recommended, they are performed at our contracted diagnostic imaging facility and professionally interpreted by a radiologist.

Q: Do you offer waterbirth?

A: Yes! We support the use of water for comfort during labor and birth. We provide referrals for birth pool rentals and helpful resources to help you prepare for your waterbirth experience.

Q: Can I transfer from an OB to a midwife during pregnancy?

A: You may choose to transfer your care to a midwife at any point during your pregnancy. If you are currently receiving care from another provider, we will request your medical records and review your health and pregnancy history to determine whether homebirth is a safe and appropriate option for you.

Q: What is the cost for Midwifery Care, Pricing and Payment Options?

A: We offer affordable self-pay options for families who do not have insurance or choose to pay out of pocket. A flexible payment plan can be arranged at your initial visit. We also offer a low-cost laboratory package covering routine prenatal labs, and discounted ultrasound services through our contracted imaging facility. We gladly accept private insurance, HSA’s and health sharing plans. Our goal is to make quality midwifery care accessible for everyone.
